National Recognition for Moray School of Art Graduates

2 June 2010

Two graduates from the Moray School of Art at Moray College UHI were amongst fifty three fine art students from Art Schools across Scotland exhibiting at the RSA ‘New Contemporaries 2010’ exhibition which took place earlier this year in April at the Royal Scottish Academy on the Mound in Edinburgh.

Selena S Kuzman (Elgin) and Janet Gordon (Fortrose) both graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the Moray College UHI Graduation and Awards Ceremonies in October 2009.

Selena’s work exhibited at ‘New Contemporaries 2010’ – a striking two-channel video installation – was very highly regarded and resulted in her being awarded two prizes.

Commenting on Selena’s success and on having two graduates displaying their work at this prestigious exhibition Gina Wall, Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Moray College UHI, said:

“We are very proud to have a graduate from the Moray School of Art as a prize winner for the second year in a row. This year Selena won the Peacock Visual Arts Award for the Moving Image which entitles her to six months free access to the digital facilities at Peacock in Aberdeen. She was also awarded the RSA Convener’s prize.

“Both Selena and Janet received favourable write ups in reviews of the exhibition and the general feedback about their work has been good.”

Expressing her delight at winning two prizes, Selena said:

“The recognition means a lot, particularly in the types of media that I’m working in, video and digital art. I was really very impressed that they used one of my images for the promotional material for the whole exhibition, and with all the technical help they provided. It was great to be there and to see my work in such a beautiful gallery. The experience is encouraging for the various new projects that I have in process.”

Preparations are now well underway for the 2010 BA (Hons) Fine Art Degree Show at the Moray School of Art which opens on Friday 11th June.
