Moray College UHI Sports Coaching students raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

22 June 2010

Katie Smart from Macmillan Cancer Support will be visiting Moray College UHI at 12.30 pm on Wednesday 23 June to receive a cheque for £1,550 from HNC Sports Coaching students. This money was raised by 10 students on the HNC Sports Coaching with Development of Sport course from two fundraising events which they organised during May and June.

£242.64 was raised through a ‘Fun Day’ which took place in the Student Common Room on Tuesday 25 May. The activities on this day included a raffle, bottle stall, guess the number of sweets in a jar and a pool competition. Three of the boys also subjected themselves to a full leg wax which was very generously carried out free of charge by staff from the Body Matters Health & Beauty Centre in Lossiemouth.

£1,307.36 was raised through the ‘Loch Morlich Challenge’ which took place on Thursday 10th June. This event comprised of a 5 mile bike ride, a 1.8 mile paddle in Kayaks and a 2 mile beach run.

Very pleased with the effort put in by the students to raise this money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Lecturer Kelly McLaren said:

“The students have worked extremely hard as a team to raise this money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They were determined to raise over £1000, and showed great initiative and enthusiasm in doing so. I cannot praise them enough for their efforts; they have done an outstanding job and exceeded their own expectations.”
