The central theme of my work is the effect of time on people and places, in particular, I am trying to capture and preserve fleeting moments and memories. I have focused my attention on the agricultural landscape that surrounds my home, as modern farming practices, two world wars and several periods of adverse weather, have contributed to a radical depletion of its inhabitants.

Over the past two years I have been investigating the many ruined and uninhabited crofts and farmtouns situated in the Cabrach area of Gordon District. It is an area known locally as the “Land of the Lost” and has inspired me to search, collect and present the ephemera in the contexts of museum objects. The sealed, glass fronted boxes contain “artefacts” layered between photographs and paintings and form a visual record of unknown lives.
