Childhood is the foundation and building block for our adult life. I am interested in exploring the sociological and psychological effects our childhood has on us, in particular, our sense of identity and the internal conflicts that we encounter in our adult life. The work explores how associations and experiences from our childhood subconsciously effect us as adults. Feelings such as isolation, loss of identity and the sense of not fitting in often arise from childhood experiences.

Through the use of sweets and dough as associations with childhood, I have tried to encourage the viewer recall this period in their lives. The use of repetition and pattern in the work serves to suggest the repetitive nature of thoughts and behaviour patterns which we can find ourselves involved in. It is only by working through these issues that knowledge and true understanding of self comes about, through this positive changes can take place.
