How did your course prepare you for this work?
Both courses enabled me to gain an in-depth knowledge of the various aspects required to progress in this field e.g. Anatomy and bio-mechanics, Health & Safety Procedures, Marketing etc. I also feel that the courses helped give me more confidence in my social skills due to the fact that we had to do presentations and talks.

What did you enjoy most about your college course?
I actually enjoyed being able to learn about something that I always had a passion for because when I was at school this sort of Physical Education qualification was not available then! and I enjoyed the student social life!

What were you doing before you started your college course?
I was a single parent bringing up 3 children and wanted to improve my prospects and make a better life for my family.

What would you say to anyone thinking about coming to college to do a course in Sport?
I would inform them that it was one of the best decisions they could make, I wouldn't be where I was now if it wasn't for all the support and assistance from my courses and lecturers at Moray College. This is one of the best times to get into Sport/Exercise due to the fact that the population is becoming more obese, people developing Type II Diabetes and suffering from more Cardiac problems. There are so many job opportunities after doing the course which will give them a firm background knowledge and understanding of where they would like to progress i.e Sports Coaching, Fitness Instructing, Personal Training, Health & Nutrition - the list is endless! But lastly I would advise them that they have to want to do it for themselves and have a passion for what they want from it! Oh and study hard!!!

What would you say to anyone thinking about coming to college to do a course in Sport?
I would encourage anyone that was interested in a career in sport to go to further their education at college/university. Over the past few years the Scottish Executive has been putting a lot of money into sport and physical activity due to the high levels of obesity in Scotland, so there are a lot more opportunities of getting a job in a sports setting now.

The whole course from the practical, theory and especially the work experience. The work experience prepared me for planning and organising sessions, working with groups of children and also for working within the schools.

What did you enjoy most about your college course?
Everything, the fact it was so much fun made the two years fly by! Both courses involved an even mixture of theory and practical. The NQ & Highers course was a mixture of aspects from the Fitness Health and Exercise and the Sports Coaching with Sports Development courses. This was great as it allowed me decide which I preferred. The course lectures were also really supportive of the fact that I was a mature student with young children and were very understanding of child illnesses etc.
