Moray Area

Moray is in the very heart of ancient Scotland, rising up from the coastal waters of the Moray Firth to the mountains of the Cairngorms, one of Scotland’s two National Parks.

Rivers like the Spey and the Findhorn run through a landscape that is often heavily wooded, and which has been settled since ancient times. The great Pictish naval stronghold of Burghead may well hold the key to a lost people, and their mysterious carved stones are found at a series of sites.

From the rivers come salmon, and crystal-clear water for so many of the greatest whiskies of all – over half of Scotland’s operating malt distilleries are in Moray. Fertile farmlands and clear coastal waters are renowned components of Scotland’s larder, today exported worldwide by local processing companies who are household names.

The combination of history and environment and modern skills is brought together at Moray College, serving the community through two main sites in Elgin, and a network of centres in the towns of Buckie, Keith, Forres, Nairn and working in partnership with organisations in other parts of the north of Scotland.
